GravelKing SS Folding Gravel Tire
RF650B38-GK-SS-B
The SS and SS+ feature an all-new tread pattern consisting of a smoother, diamond pattern center with more aggressive side lugs. This tread pattern allows the rider to keep speed going into corners and maintain control throughout any transition a gravel ride could present. The GravelKing SS incorporates a supple 126 TPI casing with a nylon puncture resistant belt and Panaracer’s proprietary ZSG (Zero Slip Grip) compound. The SS+ uses the same build as the SS but adds a bead-to-bead layer of Panaracer’s ProTite puncture material for even more protection against tread and sidewall cuts for those extra demanding courses or rides with sharp flint rock. Both SS and SS+ tires will be available in black and brown sidewall options and in the following sizes: 700 x 28, 32, 35, 43c or 27.5 x 1.9 (650b x 48).

These tires just get it done. They leak very little air (unlike many tubeless tires), they function at a high level on gravel and asphalt and they puncture more rarely than many. Basically, put them on and just ride.
I cycled across the USA from SF to NY. I like the way they roll; puncture protection is good. I had some punctures, but I was running tubeless, so it sealed pretty well—no problem there. One of the tires needed replacement in Cleveland, OH after hard break (see pics). For my second ride, I had a sidewall failure (as some comments mentioned this issue). The sealant was not able to seal it, so I had to replace it in Macedonia.
So far, I don’t see any replacements for this tire except the Bontrager R3, which is a great tire, rolls fast, but is not as comfortable as the SS+. It’s kind of a love-hate relationship, but I will have to stick to it for a while.
Had a custom titanium gravel bike built in 2023. The bike was built with Enve SES wheels with Panaracer gravel king tires (32). After approximately 1000 miles the sidewall of the rear tire seemed to have given out causing a bulge to develop preventing the tire from turning properly. Unknown what caused the sidewall to give out.
Replaced the tire with an identical Panaracer tire and had the same bulge develop again but this time after two rides totaling approximately 50 miles. Never hit any potholes on either occasion that could justify the sidewall giving out on either tire. Replaced again with identical Panaracer tire and so far the tire has held up through two rides.
I bought these tires for a mixed road and gravel event. So far they have been pretty amazing.
